Family Member Travel
Job Interview Family Member Travel Funding
The NHSC permits reimbursement of up to $1,200 for one family member to accompany a participant on one approved Job Interview. For purposes of this benefit, a family member is defined as an individual who will be traveling with you to an approved Job Interview location. A family member’s travel allotment is limited to roundtrip airfare and up to three days of meals reimbursement at the same GSA rate as the program participant.
Family Member Travel Restrictions
The following conditions apply to approved family member travel:
- The participant and approved family member must travel together, departing and returning on the same itinerary.
- The participant and family member must share one hotel room during the Job Interview Travel.
- Government double-occupancy lodging rates apply.
- All lodging costs are applied to the participant’s NHSC travel allotment, not a separate family member allotment.
Family member travel reimbursement is limited to the standard Job Interview Travel duration of three days and two nights (3 days/2 nights). Family members are not eligible for reimbursement beyond this standard timeframe.
For example, if a participant is approved for an extended Job Interview Travel of five days and four nights (5 days/4 nights) to visit multiple sites, the accompanying family member will be reimbursed only for the standard 3 days/2 nights.
Scholar and Student to Service (S2S) Couples
Scholars and Student to Service (S2S) participants who are spouses or unmarried partners, are in the same program class, and choose to travel together are not eligible for an additional $1,200 family member travel allotment.
When traveling together on the same Job Interview Travel, allowable expenses will be deducted from the NHSC travel allotment of the participant who submitted and received approval for the Job Interview Travel request.
