Advance Storage

Advance Storage Overview

Participants may submit a request for advance storage to place household goods in storage for up to 90 days prior to relocation. Advance storage may be used to allow additional time to secure permanent housing at the new clinic location or to address other pre-move requirements.

Important Note: Advance storage is authorized only in the origin area (if the participant is storing their items prior to pick-up). Storage at the destination location (destination advance storage) is not reimbursable.

Advance Storage with Federal Funded Move Approval

Participants approved for relocation under the Federal Funded Move Option may use either:

  • A Secure Storage Facility, or
  • A Self-Storage Locker

Secure storage facilities are operated by moving companies and are secure, insured, and climate-controlled. One important limitation of secure storage facilities is that household goods are not accessible while in storage.

Advanced Storage with a Conditional Relocation Approval

Participants relocating under a Conditional Relocation Approval or completing a Self-Move Option are limited to the use of a Self-Storage Locker only. Secure storage facilities managed by moving companies are not authorized under this option.

Pros and Cons of the Advance Storage Options

Both secure storage facilities and self-storage lockers have advantages and limitations. Participants are encouraged to review the Advance Storage Comparison Table located in the NHSC Reference Guides, which are accessible through the Reference tab of this website, to determine which option best meets their needs.
